OVERVIEW The Village is located on Pohnpei overlooking the north lagoon, with a panoramic view of the lagoon and the barrier reef. It's a quiet, natural sort of place among bread-fruit and banana trees on a point of land that juts out into the lagoon, away from the noisy hustle and bustle of Kolonia.
The Village is one of a kind; built on a hill from mangrove pole with roofs made of thatch. It won an award from the US Congress as a good example of how things ought to be. |
|
To help keep things quiet, telephones, fax machines, and computers are at the front desk. There is free WiFi in the restaurant and the rooms.
The Long House is the place for dinner with a view or a cocktail at the Tattooed Irishman bar. There are 2 separate levels looking out over the lagoon and nearby islands. Great food is offered all day long and you can sip the best Bloody Mary you've ever tasted while watching the sun set over Sokehs. |
|
ACCOMMODATION The Village has 20 bungalows separate from the Long House. Three of these are in duplex units which are ideal for families or groups traveling together.
Each bungalow has two queen size waterbeds, and a wood-lined shower with plenty of hot water. Each bed has its own net (for the romance), and its own lamp. The open screens and overhead fans allow you to hear the jungle sounds and make air conditioning unnecessary. |
|
There are 3 types of bungalow: Sunrise, Sokehs, and the Point. Sunrise has views of Awak bay, Sokehs has lagoon views, and the Point is the quietest area and has the best views.
The bungalows are situated to take advantage of the view. They stand on long poles in the middle of banana, elephant-ear taro, bamboo, coconut palms, and lush ferns, and are reached by a black pebble walking path strewn with hibiscus flowers. |

DIVING Pohnpei diving and snorkeling are among the world’s best kept secrets in a place where half the beauty is underwater. The well-trained Village dive guides will show you fish, manta rays, and sharks amid beautiful coral reefs teeming with exotic marine life in clear, warm water.
Divers and snorkelers can see the mantas at Manta Road almost every day. Around the passes, several species of sharks, jacks, barracuda schools, wahoos, and tuna can be seen. The barrier reef is home to many types of corals and nudibranchs, including spanish dancers. The corals display their many colors and forms at night, and are something to see and photograph. |
|
The reef channel at nearby Ant Atoll is some of the most untouched and best diving areas in Micronesia and a good contrast to Pohnpei. Where Pohnpei is a high island surrounded by a barrier reef, Ant is an atoll made up of many different islands, all with white sand beaches and coconut trees.
The dive guides will direct you to an uninhabited island where you can spend the day diving, snorkeling or just lying on the beach. |
