Kungkungan Bay Resort

Kungkungan Bay Resort is nestled on the site of an old coconut plantation on the Sulawesi coast of Lembeh strait. Located on the sunrise side of the peninsula, the view from the guest accommodations encompasses rugged Lembeh Island and the smaller Serena Island. The Resort was specifically designed to achieve a pleasing aesthetic effect with minimum impact on the environment. By using local materials and traditional architecture and adding western style bathrooms and amenities the resort reflects the local Minahasan culture, while providing international standards of comfort, convenience, safety, and privacy.

Facilities at KBR include air conditioned bar, swimming pool with swim-up bar, lounge, internet access and lending library. There are also WIFI hot spots available throughout the resort. Restaurant service is available 24-hours of every day.

Kungkungan Bay Resort's distinctive over the water restaurant building has become a local landmark for Lembeh Strait and the island of North Sulawesi. The restaurant also serves as a social center and entertainment area. Large and spacious, guests may join each other for meals at a large table and discuss the day’s adventure or opt for privacy at a table for two. There is an internet cafe and TV lounge upstairs as well as a lending library.

There are 4 types of accommodation at Kungkungan Bay. All rooms are air-conditioned, with mini-bar, hair-dryer and cable TV. All of the rooms are non smoking.

The 8 Beachfront Cottage Suites are beautiful coconut wood buildings with a separate large sitting room with veranda; the air-conditioned bedroom has a queen bed.

The 4 original Traditional House rooms each have 2 queen beds and are L-shaped, giving privacy for each bed. There is 1 family Traditional House with 2 separate bedrooms containing a king-size bed and 2 single beds connected to a separate lounge area.

The 4 Beachfront Villas are modern-traditional house style built with an open plan including a huge living area, king bed, spacious veranda and large bathroom with bath facilities. In addition to the standard amenities these rooms offer a tea & coffee maker, and room service available from 7am to 9 pm.

Located on a hillside within the resort is the Hillside Villa, an intimate and exclusive accommodation on two stories. This is KBR's version of the 'penthouse suite', with a stunning view and all the privacy a romantic couple could wish for. The Hillside Villa belongs to the same specification as the resort's Beachfront Villas, with ensuite shower room and air-conditioning throughout.

Lembeh Strait and Kungkungan Bay Resort is simply the best place in the world for macro photography! Lembeh plays host to a cornucopia of weird and wonderful creatures to be found here and here alone. We moor over shallow black sandy slopes, where seahorses and nudibranchs are in abundance. Then there are the Inimicus devilfish, dwarf lionfish, scorpionfish, pufferfish, octopus, pegasus sea moths, frogfish, ribbon eels and flying gunnards. Truly a one-off opportunity for all photographers and anyone looking for the unusual and unseen, you're sure to see something that you have never seen before, no matter how experienced you are.

The exceptional year-round weather conditions provide a variety of diving experiences, from "muck dives" on pure black volcanic sand to colorful coral reefs and enticing historic wrecks. Whatever your pleasure, Lembeh is always sure to offer fascinating and exciting underwater discoveries.

The dive staff at the resort is pretty keen on their underwater photography (to put it mildly!) and are always delighted to talk about lenses, housings, strobes, cameras and software. There is a Sea and Sea digital camera available for rental (FX-1G) with a strobe. They also rent strobes (Inons) if you want to try one out or if you are having problems with your own. They can burn DVD and CDs for you at short notice and help with downloading.
