Kinasi Lodge

Kinasi is a unique resort, with furniture, fabrics, designs and styles that borrow from all the countries of the Indian Ocean, the “empires of the monsoon”.

This intimate and lovely lodge, situated in an old cashew and coconut plantation, provides a luxury stay amidst stylish décor and magnificent natural surroundings of the protected marine park.

The resort is very personal and has the feel and character of a private home, stamped with a personality and ambience and originality that ensures guests realize immediately that Kinasi is much loved by its owners.

Kinasi has a beautiful spa, complete with modern ceramics and tilework, fine antiques and an Egyptian theme, celebrating ancient Egypt’s invention of aromatherapy. The spa offers three separate rooms and a range of essential therapies.

Kinasi has 5 Sea Front cottages with king or twin beds. There are 8 Garden Sea View rooms, also with king or twin beds. On the front of each room there are open verandas with cushion seats or hammocks to feel the blow of a welcome breeze.

The room designs, furnishings and finishes are eclectic, combining elements of coastal Tanzania, African, Indian and Arab cultures into a historically accurate "Shirazi" style that is unique to Kinasi. Some can be configured as family rooms.

All cottages are ensuite with hot solar-heated water and have ample hanging space, a desk and chair, verandah chairs and table, double chaise (for full relaxation), full-length mirror, ceiling fan for cool air and power outlets in the bathroom for hair dryers and electric shavers.

The cottages have walk-in mosquito nets that cover the beds completely, and have been designed for through-ventilation and coolness in all seasons.

Mafia Island and its reefs are renowned as an excellent world class diving destination. Scientists have confirmed that Mafia has some of the richest reefs in the world, with an unparalleled variety of hard and soft corals and diversity of tropical fish. Kinasi has identified fabulous dive sites from Mafia to Kilwa offering shallow reefs of immense beauty and richness, bommies, channels, walls and caves, drift and night dives. These are new sites and they still have many more to explore.

Kinasi offers great diving for advanced and novice divers in safety under professional instruction. Snacks and picnic lunches are taken aboard the dive boats so you can stay out for two-tank dives or, after diving, enjoy the rest of the day with a visit to other islands or historic and interesting sites.

These sites offer superb diving and snorkeling over exquisite coral gardens in excellent visibility, and have rarely been dived. Trained diving assistants handle all equipment, help divers and check their equipment, so that you are free to enjoy the dives and all other activities during each day.
