Lake Malawi is Africa`s third largest and stretches over five hundred kilometers from north to south. Palm fringed beaches and soaring mountains surround the warm crystal clear waters and picturesque fishing villages dot the shoreline. The lake supports over four hundred species of fish, many endemic. The northern lakeshore is the lushest region of the country with remnant patches of tropical rainforest and the dramatic backdrop of the Viphya Mountains. Just south of Nkhata Bay, Chintheche Inn has a wonderful broad sandy beach and extensive grounds with many fine indigenous trees. Chintheche Inn has ten double rooms which open out onto the beach. All rooms are brightly furnished with local crafts, and are equipped with fans, private bathrooms with showers and mosquito netting. Nine of the rooms have two twin beds, and one room a double bed. There is a central dining area with a beach bar, and a new swimming pool.
Activities in Chintheche include PADI scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, mountain biking, village visits, bird watching, guided walks, sailing, windsurfing, paddle skis and day trips to Nkhata Bay`s colorful market and Bandawe Mission. Also for serious hikers, the Luwawa Hiking Trail is available. While this area is more renown for its beauty and lake activities, some game viewing is possible. Wildlife sightings might include oryx, cape fox, jackal, springbok, ostrich and aardvark. |
