Located on Guanaja, the West Peak Inn resort offers sea kayaking tours to explore the island`s many hidden coves and deserted beaches. Lodgings are in thatched-roof screened cabins built on stilts under a canopy of tropical forest. Some of the cabins have private baths. A large open-air bar and restaurant is the center of activity at the West Peak Inn. Here you will have your meals which are based on local fruit and vegetables, and fresh seafood. For convenient snack, try bananas, mangoes and other fruit that grow around the hillside.
Guanaja`s shores are part of one of the largest reef systems in the world. The islands have a well-deserved reputation for world-class scuba diving and snorkeling.
Sea kayaking is West Peak Inn`s specialty. Paddle the quiet lagoons of Sandy Bay and surf the waves off the western point. Spend a day exploring and snorkeling the undersea world of coral and colorful fish and meet the local inhabitants in the stilted community of Pelican Bay, and visit the town of Bonacca with its narrow canals and rickety walkways. Each expedition is lead by one guide and a maximum of six kayakers. The itinerary will be determined by the weather conditions and the skill of the guests. Those with intermediate paddling skills will probably circumnavigate the island, visiting several outlying cayes, the town, the waterfall, and various dive sites for snorkeling.
In the evening, kayaking guests will camp on beach areas, and stroll along the beach to small, quiet resorts or guest houses for their meals. If you`re a beginner or just in need of knocking some rust off those paddling skills, there is no better place to practice than in the shallow, warm Caribbean waters. |
