OVERVIEW Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a multi international award winner, is owned and managed by Borneo Eco Tours. It was built in 1995 in traditional Malaysian architecture using several Borneo hardwood species. It is built on stilts with a separate lounge, restaurant, open sun-deck, river jetty, an enclosed garden and two tree platforms.
Sukau Rainforest Lodge is committed to the principle of economic sustainable development and prides itself on being profitable yet contributing to the local community while conserving the environment.
Built on stilts in traditional “Longhouse” style, this lodge will not be subjected to annual flooding. Sukau Rainforest Lodge has a reference library and satellite phone. Internet connection is provided for those who need to stay in touch. A 1500ft Hornbill Boardwalk at the back of the lodge is the longest covered boardwalk in Borneo. It includes two elephant passes and is built along the elephant migration route.

ACCOMMODATIONS All twenty rooms are twin bedded with ceiling fan, mosquito netting, dressing table, attached bathroom and toilet with hot water, shampoo/soap dispenser with wall to wall ceramic tiles. |

ACTIVITIES The tour to Sukau traverses from Sandakan up the Kinabatangan River by speedboat which affords the visitor the best opportunity to view wildlife including wild orang utan, proboscis monkey, crocodiles, hornbills and occasionally the rare Borneo Pygmy elephants on their migration along the river bank. Enjoy a romantic candle light dinner at Melapi Restaurant overlooking the river under the Borneo sky has one of the best views in Borneo.
River cruises, jungle walks, night cruises, birdwatching, rock climbing and repelling, fishing, slide shows, local home visitation, wilderness camping and cultural presentations are a sample of activities at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

WILDLIFE Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others. |
