The ecotourism destination Chaa Creek Lodge is set along the bank of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains of western Belize. The resort provides a perfect compromise between comfort and a true wilderness experience.

The palm-thatched cottages have Mexican tiled floors, large mahogany beds, original artwork and private bathrooms with hot showers. There are nineteen Cottage Rooms and two Luxury Suites with spa baths nestled along the riverside in a setting of unmatched beauty and tranquility.

The Spa Villa

The new two bedroom Spa Villa is set within a tropical hillside garden in the foothills of the Maya Mountains featuring a master bedroom with king size bed, a second bedroom with a queen and single bed, and two en suite bathrooms. The Spa Villa contains a full kitchen, stocked with breakfast fare and snacks. Guests also have the choice of ordering a variety of delicious meals prepared by the lodge’s resident chef at the Chaa Creek restaurant.

Guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the lush jungle surrounds of the Macal River Basin from the spacious glass walled living room and large wrap around veranda with Jacuzzi. A private spa room provides the comfort of professional massage treatments in the privacy of one’s own lodgings.

Chaa Creek is a wonderful mixture of Belize`s archaeological, cultural and natural wonders. The cuisine features Caribbean, Mexican and Belizean dishes served under an enormous umbrella of thatch in the large, airy restaurant with a temperature controlled wine cellar. The dining room, bar and cottages are all constructed from local hardwoods and thatched with bay leaf palm.

Although Chaa Creek is the ideal place to relax in beautiful and tranquil surroundings, guests are encouraged to take part in a wide range of daily activities. Hiking the trails of the 330-acre forest reserve will bring you in close contact with Belizean flora and fauna, and you can visit archaeological sites hiding deep in the green. You can hike the well-marked trails at your own pace, or join a tour lead by a naturalist guide.

Guided horseback tours will take you to the best sites, including the ancient Mayan site of Xunantunich. Another way to enjoy the surrounding nature and culture is to rent a mountain bike from the resort.

The Natural History Center, Butterfly Farm and Rainforest Medicinal Trail offer educational tours and provide casual and enjoyable learning experience for the whole family. A great way to cool off is to take a dip in the pristine Macal river—there are no dangerous animals so you can enjoy the bird life around you and have a delightful and refreshing experience. You can also canoe the Macal river. The resort offers tours to Mayan sites of Tikal, Xunantunich and Cahal Pech, as well as to the Mountain Pine Ridge National Park`s waterfalls and swimming holes. Or, just relax at the resort and try spot some of the 250 species of birds sighted in the area!
