The water village of Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort is built on a sandbar fifteen minutes away from Sipadan Island. Kapalai used to be a small island, but today all that is left is an extensive stretch of reefs known as the Ligitan Reefs.
The Celebes Sea offers many different dive environments, and Kapalai differs greatly from Sipadan itself. This a macro heaven featuring rare creatures including the mandarin fish, dragonets, fire gobies, partner gobies, sleeper gobies, wasp or leaf fish, gurnards, seamoth, crocodile fish, giant frogfish, eels, rays and much much more. This is a place where your skills at spotting small and well camouflaged oddities are well rewarded!
All dive spots are extremely close and can be reached in just a few minutes by boat, or just by swimming from the dive center pier. The diving in Kapalai is so easy and shallow that it can be considered ideal for the beginners, yet it is so varied and exciting that it will also satisfy the most experienced diver. Combine the fascinating macro diving of Kapalai with big fish and turtles of Sipadan and muck diving of Mabul—and in the end of the day, relax on your private balcony and take in the beautiful sunset!
