Malaysia

Divided into two distinct regions, Malaysia lies just north of the equator. It is ethnically diverse with Malay, Indian and Chinese making up the majority of the population. The western part of the country, Peninsular Malaysia, is covered by tropical jungle, including the central mountains that run north to south providing cool highland retreats and rolling down to sandy beaches and mangroves. The western coast is marsh while the eastern is sandy. Eastern Malaysia consists of Sabah and Sarawak states, both in the northern part of the island of Borneo. Here rugged mountains reach dramatically for the sky while their rainforest-clad slopes sweep down to floodplains teeming with forest life. The beaches and offshore islands have dazzling white sand and crystal clear waters with world-class scuba diving and snorkeling.

SCUBA DIVING

Malaysia will thrill you with an incredible range of marine diversity. The Celebes, Sulu and South China Seas converge here to create one of the richest marine environments in the Indo-Pacific Basin.

With everything from hammerhead sharks, huge schools of barracudas and various species of turtles, to the bizarre frogfish and ghost pipefish, there is always something fascinating awaiting you. Each marine bio-diversity survey conducted in Malaysia’s tropical seas seems to find new species.

Top dive sites around Malaysia include diverse underwater geography such as sheer walls, sloping reefs, coral blocks, deep dives, drift dives, wreck dives and a true oceanic island. A dip below the warm sea’s surface promises an astounding experience, with a concentration of vibrant and exotic marine life. Whether its muck diving at Mabul, macro photography at Mataking, pelagic action at Sipadan or another diving experience you are after, there is plenty to choose from in Malaysia.
