Spice Island Divers

Description:

Spice Island Divers is a purpose-built dive resort offering superior levels of both accommodation and dive facilities in Ambon. Situated in the village of Laha, this peaceful beachfront property consists of a community of individual bungalows amongst an array of mature trees and is adjacent to the large dive shop and open waterfront restaurant.

There is an open-air dining area right on the beach serving a unique and interesting Indonesian-focused menu, utilizing seasonal local fruits and produce flavored with spices from the surrounding islands. The menu is a delightful array of Indonesian-style dishes, freshly grilled tuna and other locally purchased pelagic sea fish, rice, local vegetables, and soups.

In the very heart of Ambon’s muck diving region, this site has been the dream of the Spice Island Divers team for several years and is the culmination of extensive planning and hard work. The resort was built to have as little impact on the environment as possible, further developing the Spice Island Divers’s eco-friendly message. The bungalows have been positioned so that none of the mature trees on the property had to be felled.

Just minutes from the airport, it’s possible to be diving within one hour of the touchdown, if divers are so dedicated.

Accommodation:

Each of the 10 individual bungalows is over 60 square meters, with a private bathroom, hot water, air-conditioning, and balcony, and a large covered private wooden terrace. Within, the trademark luxury beds and custom-made furniture ensure a comfortable and peaceful environment for rest and recuperation after long and interesting dives.

Designed to feature aspects of traditional Maluku architectural history, the bungalows embrace the personality of Ambon. The resulting resort is a fusion of design and comfort, apparent throughout the cool, bright, and airy waterfront bungalows, each with uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Diving:

Without a doubt, Ambon offers some of the best of the best Critter, Muck or Macro diving on the planet.  The excellent location of this resort helps Spice Island Divers offer high quality shore and boat diving to a relatively small number of divers on a large expanse of varied muck diving sites around Ambon Bay.

Though diving Ambon is quite rightly touted as an incredible muck and critter diving experience, the birthplace of Indonesian muck diving to be precise, the sites are very diverse. With a huge 100-meter shipwreck resting within Ambon Bay, just minutes from the resort, and interesting topographical sites on the south coast, in addition to exhilarating drift diving on the northern and western coasts of Ambon, diving this area comfortably holds its own with Indonesia's most popular reef sites.

The staff at Spice Island Divers is a happy and attentive team: a mix of local Ambonese, Balinese, and Manadonese, their personality and dedication to divers, ensure that no-one is found wanting during the stay.
